The Magic of Epsom Salts

I get to review a lot of body and facial products, so I know a quality product from a bargain one, when I see it. Epsom salts are the hidden secret to beauty regimes.

What are Epsom salts?

The chemical formulation is simple- magnesium sulfate. It is natural, and used for so many things that it boggles the imagination. Epsom salts can be taken internally, and used externally for skin and other issues. It can also be used for an additive to plants, when used at the right time.

Internal Use of Epsom Salts:

  • Laxative
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Bronchodilator
  • Used for preclampsia

And many other functions.

Why do I use Epsom salts?

I buy mine at the drugstore, grocery store or online when it is on sale.

It goes for around $2-$4 a pound for a decent bag that will last you awhile.

I love this one from Amazon– easy to pour and a nice container. Free shipping with Prime.

I take my bag and set it next to the tub so I can use it whenever I feel the need.

Filling your bath with super hot water and adding a cup or two of Epsom salts is a rare luxury for me. I just lay there and soak and feel happy. My body aches melt away. My puffy feet de-puff. I rinse off and feel relaxed and sleepy.

Mostly, I don’t have time to soak. So I hop in the shower, get wet, and take handfuls of the salts and start scrubbing. I try to focus on my neck, back and arms, and keep the salts on as long as I can while washing my hair. When I am done with my hair, I take the fine Epsom salts and lightly scrub my face. My pores look amazing after this.

Foot soak

Sometimes, I get the ultimate luxury- a foot soak. I have one of these little foot soaking devices, and it heats and massages as I watch tv or surf the web. Dumping a ton of Epsom salts in here with water gives me a super concentrated dose of relaxation and my feet are super happy.
